Hitting a natural gas line has a big impact on service! A line hit can result in members being left without gas service anywhere from an hour to one or more days! Before you disturb the ground: KNOW WHATS BELOW!

HIT LINES ARE EXPENSIVE! - you could be liable for the cost of repairs to the line, gas loss, and time spent relighting members.

SECONDARY GAS LINES - are lines installed after the meter going to other buildings or gas fired appliances such as irrigations or grain dryers on the property - THESE LINES ARE NOT THE PROPERTY OF DINOSAUR GAS CO-OP and therefore we have no information on the location of these lines. Dinosaur will locate secondary lines on a best effort basis only, in conjunction with a submitted locate ticket for Dinosaur distribution lines. Please make a note on the ticket if you wish to have Dinosaur attempt to locate secondary lines.

Check the proximity of the work area for signs and markers indicating below ground service lines - if they do not show up on the Respondants list on your Alberta One Call Ticket - call Alberta One Call to have them added!

The most common reason for line hits is because the homeowner or contractor did not have the underground lines located before the start of a project, or did not wait for all services to be located before starting.

The second most common reason is that the line was not properly hand exposed - If your project requires digging within 5 METERS on either side of locate marks, expose the gas line by hand (or HVAC) for 1 meter on either side of the gas line before using any mechanical digging equipment.

Do not construct any buildings, additions, patios, decks or garden sheds over gas lines, plant trees at least 2 meters away from locate marks.
